Avidemux avis3/17/2023 You can also try the AVI muxer though it may prove problematic with some codecs. This is because the MKV format supports virtually any video and audio codec out there. However, if you need to output to a different container, my rule of thumb is to select the MKV muxer. If all the videos have the same container, you can select the original container for output if it’s supported by Avidemux. So, nothing 'wrong' with AVCHD, I just don't personally think it's a very good format for editing.Quick Guide to Selecting a Suitable Codec and Container Pair (In defence of those two 'downsides' I would say that the large files are only temporary, and the conversion time is no worse than 'real time' DV tape capture was!) or can be bothered to spend the time converting the files. Makes the editing process so much more fluid (and accurate!)īut not everyone wants the much larger working files of an intermediate format. And it all needs a lot of computing power to appear to be working 'smoothly' of courseįor those of us who enjoyed editing DV in the 'old days', its nice to be able to convert HD footage to a similar 'intraframe' (all frames as keyframes) format. and the double colourspace conversions needed for smart renders don't always look quite right. The newer versions of consumer editors can do that quite well, but there are still sometimes complaints about 'stuttering' replay problems during the editing process. The long GOP format with it's relatively few keyframes means that the editing programs need to apply various 'tricks' I mentioned (So called 'smart' renders, and/ or proxy files, for example) It's just not a very good format to use for editing, IMHO. Nothing 'wrong' with AVCHD Harry - for recording and playback it's a very effective format.
